This unique book, nineteen years in the

1989 with a photo of Richard & Sammy Davis
Jnr it then takes you year by year on a journey into the
world of the celebrity right through to 2007.
With over four hundred never before
seen photographs of the ‘who’s who’ of
celebrity including Audrey Hepburn, Nelson Mandela and
Johnny Cash. The Dalai Lama to Paris Hilton, Metallica,
Snoop
Dogg & Jessica Simpson and many
more.
Richard & Famous not only features Richard’s
original photographs but tells in his own words how he
came to meet and photograph over one thousand celebrities.
“This book represents a collection
of photographs which uniquely documents my life through
photographs from 1989 – 2007.

seen before” Richard Simpkin

Australian
Legends
"To be great in the future, we must learn about the greatness
of the past."
Richard Simpkin.
The Australian Legends book is the first
of its kind. In 1996 I photographed Sir Donald Bradman and
continued to meet, photograph and in many cases interview
those whom I consider to be Australian Legends. The book has
80 original photographs of Australian Legends, along with
a biography on each legend and my own experiences with each
of them. The Australian Legends book will be released mid
August 2005 throughout all good book stores around Australia
and includes a foreword by Ray Martin.
I also plan on exhibiting the photographs throughout Australia.
If you would like the exhibition to travel to your area please
e-mail me via this site.
“Nothing
Is Real” 2004
With digital technology becoming such a big part of photography
these days I believe that photography is dead! Anyone today
can take an average photo and turn it into a great photo on
the computer; the art in photography has died! This image
is a one off, just like a painting is a one off; you can’t
recreate a painting to be exactly the same as the original.
The Nothing Is Real image is the same, it was hand ripped
and I just let fate take over whilst I was ripping it, so
even if I want to create another Nothing Is Real image I couldn’t,
it’s a one off.
I chose Margaret Olley, Charles Blackman, James Gleeson and
Judy Cassab as my subjects to give it an art feel; I’m
trying to put art back into photography. I would like you
to look at the image and try to work out what part of each
artist is used to create the ‘single image’
Richard
Simpkin Photographer
Born in Sydney in 1973 from an early age Richard had a keen
interest in photography and would practise taking photos of
family members.
In January 1990, his life changed forever. Richard was just
sixteen and had struck up a friendship with INXS frontman
Michael Hutchence; Michael took Richard under his wing and
allowed the teenager to practice his photography on him. This
friendship would last until the time of Michael’s untimely
death. ”
In 1996 Richard started taking photos of Australian Legends.
His book 'Australian Legends, people whose story we should
know' will be released in August 2005.
Richard has worked as a photographer since the age of sixteen,
working in Australia, United States and the United Kingdom
and was a finalist in the Australian Photographic Portrait
Prize in 2004 with his portrait of famed artist Nora Heysen.
